new French style bakery cafe in Hobart...Daci & Daci

I am very excited with the new bakery cafe that has only just opened in the last few weeks, right near Salamanca Place in Murray Street. It is called Daci & Daci, the names of the passionate duo who are currently baking their hearts out to deliver artisan breads and patisserie items to meet Hobart's demands. I called in this afternoon and bought some fig and walnut bread, green olive bread and their grainy bread, too! I didn't know which to try first...And the bread is all displayed on a 19th century French iron baker's stand. The bread has been selling out quickly, as you can see. You may recognise the baker's stand from our store. We were pretty sad to see it leave, we all loved it so much. But now I get to visit it in its new home. And the best part is it is now being used for its original purpose - to display bread!
The antique Gothic style counter has inset marble for the French style sweet pastries. I bought a traditional French escargot pastry to bring back memories of Paris.
The asparagus and gruyere tart had all but sold out. The savoury pastries and fresh sandwiches are displayed on these French style cheese boards.
Other baked items available for purchase, such as vanilla marshmallows, toasted muesli, Christmas cakes along with many other goodies, all made on site. In fact, the building was originally a bakery. There is a photo of the 19th century bakery within the cafe.
You can sit out on the deck on a nice day on these vintage French cafe chairs at original French bistro tables.
It is because of passionate people such as Daci & Daci that makes me love living in Hobart. I am pretty sure I will become a frequent visitor of Daci & Daci...did I mention that they make a great coffee?

antiques and interiors for decadent living

Decadent indeed! I love this dining room with the mix of opulance (crystal chandelier, French gilt mirror) and natural textures (linen covered chairs, pewter plates and washed timber table). Alex MacArthur, antique dealer based in the south of the UK, certainly knows how to put a room together...
The cupboard and the butcher's block to the left has heaps of character and warmth. Mixed this time with an industrial light fitting and stools. I could eat breakfast in this room every morning, no worries.
The collection of silver frames make an interesting display. She also uses found objects (antlers, shells) to decorate. My kind of decorator!
Another wonderful dining room with a gorgeous chandelier. I bought a chandelier on our last buying trip for our dining room. It is still in boxes...not for long though, these rooms have inspired me to unwrap each lustre and clean it until it sparkles. The mirror is wonderful too, as is the early table...sigh.
What a comfortable lounge room! The baker's stand is very, very similar to the baker's stand we have in store at the moment. I love to think of the stories a Parisian baker's stand could tell...all the quick pleasantries and exchanges between boulanger and client. In this room the baker's stand is a great feature against the wall, but also quite useful holding stacks of magazines. The coffee table appears to be a vintage gym apparatus. Another chandelier completes the room. All images from Alex MacArthur. Her store is in Brighton in the south of England and her nearby home doubles as a private furniture showroom where everything is for sale! If I get a chance on our next buying trip I will have to check it out. And report back.

French baker's stands, tables and baskets

We were lucky enough to find this French baker's stand on our antiques buying trip. It is original 19th century and is stamped 'Paris'. We can't wait for it to arrive along with all our other goodies. It was one of the very last pieces that went into the container so it will be the first item to greet us when we open the doors. How exciting. Wouldn't this French baguette basket look great on the baker's stand? As far as I know, the curved areas at the ends of the baker's stand were to hold the baguettes. (Photo from http://www.1stdibbs.com/). I have always wanted a French pastry or baker's tables like the one above (photo from http://www.1stdibbs.com/). I am not sure where I would put it when I find one, but I believe if you love something enough you will always find a place for it. Look how good this one looks! I love the lighter grey colour and the French glass cloches on top (photo from http://www.insidehomepage.com/). I might take another look at the French glass cloches in our store at the moment (above) and add to my collection.
